Beachgold’s rich history expands beyond 25 years of designing, manufacturing and producing contemporary resort wear on the tropical island of Bali. A family owned and operated business came together when founders and sisters Judy Flax and Jan Lovett first visited Bali in the mid 1970s. In awe of the inherent talent and skillset of local garment and textile artisans, the duo merged their creative knack and international network to partner directly to develop what has become a village cooperative business model based upon ethically just practices.
Beachgold Lifestyle was officially established in 2010 with the addition of Jan and Judy’s daughters, Emma-Lee and Lara, to form a true family affair. In 2018, Beachgold Home was formed to compliment the company’s ready to wear collections. Beachgold Home features a collection of community-based accessories, homewares and interiors infusing innovative design to meet the current marketplace demands.
Beachgold is proud to present collections inspired by this unique environment by true artisans of the region, we hope you enjoy.
The development of a Beachgold garment is a handmade process from start to finish, from the screen-printing and dye-house process to sewing, checking and packaging. New prints are created drawing creative inspiration from our travels and sourcing insight from books, antique prints, trend alerts and our Beachgold archives.
Each print created is unique to Beachgold and entirely hand printed. Our Beachgold factory then approves and distributes through our co-operative business network for garments to be hand cut and sewn. Embellishments such as lace, sequins and beads are added to each garment by hand.
We acknowledge the fashion industry has had and continues to contribute a huge toll on the environment and that social conditions vary drastically between each factory.
We take full responsibility for our own impact within our operations. Our Sustained Ability is derived from our four pillars of financial contribution, ecological impact, ethical & sociocultural responsibility and spiritual wellbeing. We acknowledge the give and take, and are well aware of the balance that must be respected and restored within our business activities and operational impact.
Our home-grown roots in Indonesia have nurtured community at the heart of our operations. We have created and valued a shared growth model amongst all that contribute to our production and operations.
Our 30 full time team members have a vested interest, are stakeholders of the company and the majority have been with us for over 15 years. We have provided micro-financing to our team members to enable growth and support within their own independent ventures, including managing their own production facilities whether that be a sewing collective or a dye-house.
We embody the slogan of the Indonesian Archipelago, ‘Unity in Diversity’. A true East meets West, fusion of worlds and mix of times is evident throughout the Beachgold operational lifecycle. Our contemporary designs honor the hand-made process that is involved in each unique garment we produce. Our print work is designed to pay homage to the art of the manual and laborious print house process of screen printing.
We predominantly hire women throughout our operations yet our facility is indiscriminate in hiring and boasts a culturally diverse workplace.
We are currently in the process of quantifying and qualifying the ecological impact that is associated with the production of each Beachgold garment. The design of each garment ensures that all offcuts are minimized. We upcycle and repurpose any leftover material into items such as boxer pants, hair ties and cleaning cloths.
We are happy to have launched a collaboration with local pioneers of responsible waste management, Eco Bali.
We also endeavour to tackle water issues, focusing on our supply chain, in particular our partner dye-house. Currently all materials are locally sourced and milled in Java, Indonesia.
Spiritual wellbeing is harnessed as an integral component to ensure our sustained ability. Each team member is able to select their own religious holidays. We hold full respect for all traditional Balinese ceremonies and rituals within our own factory facilities and office. This includes a temple being placed in the property for daily offerings.
